Biochem/physiol Actions

NCF1 (neutrophil cytosolic factor-1) is an important constituent of the phagocyte NADPH-oxidase system. The enzyme helps in the synthesis of microbicidal superoxide in phagocytes like neutrophil and plays a key role in host defense against microbial pathogens. A 2-bp GT deletion in exon 2 of the NCF1 gene results in chronic granulomatous disease (CGD).

General description

Phospho-p47/ NCF1 (neutrophil cytosolic factor-1) codes for the p47^phox subunit of the phagocyte NADPH oxidase (NOX2). It is a cytosolic factor. This gene is located with two pseudogenes (NCF1B and NCF1C). NCF1 is mapped to human chromosome 7q11.23.
