Biochem/physiol Actions
TERT (telomerase reverse transcriptase) catalyzes the de novo synthesis of telomere and results in cellular immortalization to maintain chromosomal stability. Mutations in TERT causes different types of malignancies such as gliomas, gastric cancer, and anaplastic thyroid cancer. Therefore, TERT serves as an early prognostic biomarker.
