Biochem/physiol Actions
The gene BNIPL (Bcl-2/adenovirus E1B 19 kDa interacting protein 2-like) encodes a protein of the BNIPL family that functions in the apoptotic pathway. The BCH (BNIP-2 and Cdc42GAP homology) domain plays a crucial role by interacting with Bcl-2 and Cdc42GAP and inducing cell death. It serves as a linker protein in Bcl-2 pathway for DNA fragmentation. It also participates in Cdc42 (cell division control) signaling for changes in cell morphology and membrane blebbing during apoptosis. It facilitates invasion and cancer metastasis.
General description
The gene BNIPL (Bcl-2/adenovirus E1B 19kDa interacting protein 2-like) encodes a protein containing BNIP-2 and Cdc42GAP homology (BCH) domain and has a molar mass of 19kDa. It is abundantly expressed in human placenta and lung.
