Application
Anti-STAT3 antibody produced in rabbit has been used in western blotting.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) signaling participates in cancer inflammation. This protein interacts with nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB). STAT3 regulates the function of several genes that take part in proliferation, apoptosis, metastasis, angiogenesis, immune response, and cell differentiation. Overexpression of the STAT3 gene is associated with lymphomas, prostate carcinoma, breast cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, pancreatic adenocarcinoma, cholangiocarcinoma, and ovarian carcinoma.

General description
Signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) protein is a member of the STAT family of proteins. It consists of a DNA binding domain, a Src homology-2 (SH-2) domain, an N-terminal coiled-coiled domain, and a C-terminal transactivation domain. The STAT3 gene is located on the human chromosome at 17q21.2.
Immunogen
GST fusion protein corresponding to amino acids 688-722 of human STAT3, expressed in bacteria.
Physical form
Solution in 0.1 M Tris-glycine, pH 7.4, containing 0.15 M NaCl and 0.05% sodium azide.
Specificity
The antibody is specific for STAT3. It may detect an additional 66 kDa band using high concentrations or long exposures. The sequence recognized by the antibody (688-722) is identical in mouse and rat STAT3. The first 28 amino acids are identical to mouse STAT3B.
