Application
The antibody may be detected by various immunochemical techniques including immunoblotting, co-immunoprecipitation assay (co-IP), immunoprecipitation, indirect immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) catalyzes the dismutation of the cytotoxic superoxide radical (O2 -) to molecular oxygen and hydrogen peroxide. Manganese SOD (MnSOD) has been proposed to function as a tumor suppressor by modulating the activity of redox-sensitive transcription factors and specific signal mediators. MnSOD is involved in detoxification.

General description
Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) is a metalloprotein enzyme. It is widely distributed in the animal and plant kingdoms. The three common mammalian endogenous isozymes are the homodimeric copper-zinc SOD (Cu,ZnSOD, SOD1) found primarily in the cytosol, the homotetrameric glycosylated copper-zinc SOD, extracellular SOD (EC-SOD, SOD3), and the homotetrameric mitochondrial manganese SOD (MnSOD, SOD2). All three are nuclear-encoded. MnSOD is composed of four subunits, each containing one Mn2+.
Immunogen
synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acid residues 183-199 of human superoxide dismutase (MnSOD) with N-terminal added cysteine, conjugated to KLH. The corresponding sequence is conserved in many eukaryotes.
