Application
C24:1 Mono-Sulfo Galactosyl(β) Ceramide (d18:1/24:1) has been used in the stimulation of leukocyte mono-immunoglobulin (Ig)-like receptor 5 (LMIR5). It may be used as a lipid standard in matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) analysis of mouse brain tissues.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Sulfatide plays a vital role in the biological functions of microbial infection, hemostasis, nervous system and immune system. Accumulation of lysosomal sulfatide is associated with metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD). Sulfatide is implicated in protein trafficking, signal transduction and neuronal cell differentiation.
General description
3-O-sulfogalactosylceramide, also known as sulfatide is a sulfoglycolipid. It was first isolated from the human brain. Sulfatide is present mainly in the cellular membrane, Golgi apparatus and lysosomes. It is produced by ceramide galactosyltransferase and cerebroside sulfotransferase.
