Application
18:3 PE has been used in the preparation of liposomes. It may be suitable for use in the characterization of contact angle in monolayer formation.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) plays a key role in autophagy, apoptosis, membrane fusion, cell cycle and cognitive function. PE is essential for maintaining membrane architecture. PE functions to monitor proper progression of cytokinesis during cell division. PE is the precursor for many biologically active signaling molecules like diacylglycerol and phosphatidic acid.
General description
Phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) is a membrane phospholipid. The types of PE depends on the combination of free fatty acids on the α and β position. PE represents the main phospholipid class bacteria and the second most abundant in eukaryotic cells. PE is zwitterionic. PE is synthesized by Kennedy pathway.
