Application

Egg NBD PE is suitable to use as an additive in dimethylformamide (DMF) to compare the effects of nystatin on the diffusion of NBD-Nys and NBD-PE. It has also been used to monitor lipid extraction from liposomes for lipid transfer assay.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) helps to activate factor (F)X and PT, thereby stimulating thrombosis. It serves as an anticoagulant. PEis essential for the surface expression of γ-aminobutyric acid type A receptors (GABAARs) incultured neurons.

General description

Thephosphatidylethanolamine(PE) is a zwitterionic phospholipid. Its headgroup is provided with a phosphate, that is negatively charged and a free amine, that is positively charged. PE is one of the widely distributed glycerophospholipid in eukaryotic cells.
