Sulphate reducing bacteria (SRB) are microorganisms that have the ability to produce corrosive sulphide which can, in turn cause a variety of issues for many industrial sectors — such as the corrosion of ferrous and non-ferrous metals and masonry, discoloration of metal fluids and the production of foul-smelling gases. SRB tests are fast, efficient, and easy to use for the detection of such microbial induced corrosion (MIC) caused by sulphate reducing bacteria, with a large window of detection from bacterial concentrations as little as ﹥10 SRB cfu/mL up to ﹥104 SRB cfu/mL.

  • Results can be interpreted up to 6 days incubation, with high levels of contamination indicated in as little as 24 hours
  • Plastic tubes filled with selective culture media to encourage growth of sulphate reducing bacteria
  • Culture gel turns black if sulphides are present in the test sample, the amount of colour change can be compared with the included chart to help determine the level of contamination
  • Packaged securely in fitted boxes with an easy-to-follow instruction leaflet, providing all the information required for testing
  • Can be used to test a vast range of industrial samples including; metal working fluids, lubricants and oils, water (tanks, environmental, process etc.), fuel tank sediment, corrosion pits/surfaces, soil, mud and core
