Nutrient broth is based on the recipe for Nutrient Agar, which was first described by the American Public Health Association (APHA) in 1917 as a medium to cultivate a wide variety of organisms. Although, a basic general-purpose medium, this medium can be enriched with other ingredients such as blood, serum, sodium chloride, sugars, etc., for special purposes.
