Wright stain has been used to determine the number of white blood cell types (neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils) per microliter of whole blood.

General description

Wright Stain is a modified Romanowsky stain commonly used for the cellular elements of blood. Wright’;s stain is a mixture of eosin Y with polychromed (oxidized and partly demethylated) methylene blue and therefore termed polychrome stains. The hematological stain is intended for differentially staining peripheral blood and bone marrow films.
