Application

The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. Biochem/physiol Actions

UXS1 (UDP-glucuronate decarboxylase 1) catalyzes the conversion of UDP-glucuronate to UDP-xylose. UDP-xylose is essential for the initiation of the synthesis of glycosaminoglycan on the core protein of proteoglycans. In Caenorhabditis elegans, this protein is expressed in the vulva and might have a role in the morphogenesis of vulva. Offspring of UXS1-null mutants are incapable of cytokinesis initiation.

General description

UXS1 (UDP-glucuronate decarboxylase 1) gene is expressed in a wide range of tissues, including multiple brain areas. This protein is localized to the perinuclear Golgi. This protein is composed of 420 amino acids coded by 1260 nucleotides, and it has a molecular weight of 47kDa. It is an evolutionary conserved protein, and is conserved across plants and mammals. It is a single-pass type II transmembrane protein, which has a short cytoplasmic N-terminal and a bigger luminal C-terminal.
