Biochem/physiol Actions
ARP2 actin related protein 2 homolog (ACTR2) is a key component of the Arp2/3 complex. It is required for the regulation of the actin cytoskeleton. It plays a vital role in various processes such as cell locomotion and intracellular motility of lipid vesicles. In addition, It is also involved in the regulation of axon guidance and growth cone filopodia formation in Caenorhabditis elegans and Drosophila.
General description
The specific function of this gene has not yet been determined; however, the protein it encodes is known to be a major constituent of the ARP2/3 complex. This complex is located at the cell surface and is essential to cell shape and motility through lamellipodial actin assembly and protrusion. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. (provided by RefSeq)
ARP2 actin related protein 2 homolog (ACTR2) is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 2p14.
