Application

TopFluor^® PC has been used as a component in the for fluorescent studies using small unilamellar vesicles. It has also been used in the preparation of unilamellar phospholipid liposomes.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylcholine (PC) functions as a surfactant within the mucus to form a hydrophobic surface to inhibit bacterial penetrance. It is used to treat fat embolism.

General description

Phosphatidylcholines (PC) are the building blocks of eukaryotic membranes. PC is an important component of the mucosal layer of the colon and is a strong bilayer-forming lipid.
