General description
Neuropeptide found in high concentrations in the gut. When released from afferent nerves, causes a neurogenic inflammatory response, including mast cell degranulation. Induces Ca²⁺ mobilization. Reported to activate G_oα, G_q/11α, and G_sα subunits in CHO cells via activation of substance P receptors. Also reported to induce superoxide production in neutrophils.
