- Do not reuse: single use device that is not suitable for re-work or reuse
- Certain viruses and microorganisms have reduced viability on dry swabs so immediate transfer or pre-moisten with 1 to 2 drops of sterile saline after sampling is permitted (if lack of exudates) when transport is necessary to prevent cell stress or no recovery
- Unsuitable for certain sample areas (body cavities, twists, bends or where poor visibility is experienced) due to the inclusion of a breakpoint
