Biochem/physiol Actions
CHRDL2 (Chordin-like 2) may play a role in the cartilage regeneration, myoblast and osteoblast differentiation. It has been reported that CHRDL2 may negatively regulate the cartilage formation/regeneration from immature mesenchymal cells. CHRDL2 restricts BMPs activity by blocking their interaction with its type I BMP receptor ectodomain. Overexpressed expression of CHRDL2 has been reported in several cancerous tissues such as breast, lung and colon cancers.
General description
CHRDL2 (Chordin-like 2) is a novel chordin-related gene belonging to the chordin family of proteins. It encodes a putative extracellular matrix protein consistsing of a signal peptide and three cysteine-rich (CR) domains. In humans, it expressed in several normal adult tissues predominantly in liver, heart, prostate, testis, and ovary.
