Biochem/physiol Actions

Endoplasmic reticulum lectin 1 (ERLEC1) plays a key role in sorting of misfolded glycoproteins and their endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD). In mammals, ERLEC1 coordinates with amplified in osteosarcoma 9 (OS-9) and monitors protein misfolding and channelizes them for ubiquitin conjugation and degradation. It interacts with endoplasmic reticulum chaperones GRP94 (94-kDa glucose-regulated protein, an ER Hsp90 family member) and BiP (immunoglobulin heavy chain-binding protein, an ER Hsp70 family member) through the MRH domain.

General description

Endoplasmic reticulum lectin 1 (ERLEC1), also called Erlectin (XTP3-B), belongs to mannose 6-phosphate receptor homology (MRH) domain family. It has a signal peptide and two MRH domains. The ERLEC1 gene is mapped to human chromosome 2p16.2.
