General description

Myostatin, also known as Growth/differentiation factor 8, is a negative regulator of skeletal muscle growth encoded by the MSTN (also known as MSLHP and GDF8) gene in human. Myostatin is a member of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) family within the TGF- superfamily. Growth and differentation factor-associated serum protein-1 & 2 (GASP-1/2) and follistatin-related gene (FLRG) protein are reported to interact with myostatin and negatively regulate its activity (PMID 24019467, 17878677). Mutation in MSTN gene is known to cause muscle hypertrophy (MSLHP), a condition characterized by increased muscle bulk and strength.

Target description

~31 kDa observed. 30–32 kDa band assumed to be a glycosylated dimer of the carboxy terminus portion of the full length translational product (Artaza, J.N., et al. (2007). J. of Endocrinology. 194:63-76). This antibody also detected the 32-kDa band corresponding to the processed dimer (Artaza, J.N., et al. (2007). J. of Endocrinology. 146(8):3547-3557).
