Application

Titanium(II) hydride (TiH₂) is a non-stoichiometric compound that can be used in the enhancement of fracture by localized plastic deformation and brittle fracture for titanium and titanium alloy. It can be used in the hydrogen evolution and hydrogen storage. It can also be used in the foaming of aluminum due to its decomposition temperature closer to aluminum′s melting point.

TiH₂ was used as intermetallic precursor for the preparation of Ti₃AlC₂ by self-propagating high temperature synthesis (SHS).1 TiH₂ may be added to MgH₂ to decrease the enthalpy and entropy of the absorption and desorption of hydrogen.
