Nitrite reducing bacteria (NRB) are microorganisms that have the ability to reduce nitrite which in turn generates corrosive ammonia and gases (nitrogen). Causing issues such as microbial induced corrosion (MIC) for many industrial sectors, particularly as nitrite reducing bacteria can diminish nitrite corrosion inhibitors. NRB tests are fast, efficient, and easy to use for the semi-quantitative detection of such nitrite reducing bacteria, with a large window of detection from bacterial concentrations as little as ﹥10 NRB cfu/mL up to ﹥109 NRB cfu/mL.

  • Results can be interpreted in up to 5 days incubation, with high levels of contamination indicated in as little as 24 hours
  • Plastic tubes filled with selective culture media to encourage growth of nitrite reducing bacteria
  • Contains an orange culture gel which changes to a pink colour depending on the level of ammonia detected in the sample (indicating the presence of nitrite reducing bacteria)
  • Packaged in securely fitted boxes with an easy-to-follow instruction leaflet, providing all the information required for testing
  • Can also be used to measure nitrite reducing bacteria where nitrite has been used to inhibit sulphide production, caused by sulphate reducing bacteria
  • Other examples of the vast range of test samples that can be screened are: metal working fluids, cooling waters, water (tanks, environmental, process etc.), fluids that contain nitrite corrosion inhibitor, corrosion pits/surfaces
