2-Nitrophenol can be used in the iron-catalyzed synthesis of 2-arylbenzoxazole from benzylic alcohols.It is employed in the preparation of heterodiazocines, which are potential photochromic compounds for applications in photopharmacology and functional materials.It can be used as a precursor in synthesizing “off-on” chemosensor for Hg²⁺ detection in aqueous acetonitrile solution.Additional application includes the synthesis of 1,4-benzoxazine derivative in the total synthesis of antimicrobial agent, levofloxacin.
