A diluent specified by the harmonised pharmacopoeia for the suspension and dilution of test samples from pharmaceutical and other materials. The medium is a combination of phosphate buffer (for stable pH), sodium chloride (for osmotic balance) and peptone (to increase the viability of sensitive microorganisms in particular). The diluent maintains viability without significant growth. The medium performs as specified in the European Pharmacopoeia (EP) 2.6.12, United States Pharmacopeia (USP) 61> and ISO 11133.
