Application
Magnolol has been used:to test its effect on muscle atrophy and macrophage subtypes in sarcopenia mouse modelto test its inhibitory effect on human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) in angiogenesis assayto test its anti-fungal effects on growth, ultrastructure, and biofilm formation of Candida spp. strainsin the preparation of immobilized amino-functionalized mesoporous silica particles for prolonged-release studies
Biochem/physiol Actions
Magnolol is a bioactive plant component isolated from the root and stem bark of Magnolia officinalis with antifungal, antibacterial and antioxidant effects. Magnolol also demonstrates anti-inflammatory activity by interferring with NF-κB signaling. It also appears to have anti-inflammatory properties related to vascular disorders such as atherosclerosis due to its ability to inhibit IL-6-induced STAT3 activation.
Magnolol exerts anti-depressant and, neurodegenerative properties. It is also considered to be a potent anti-cancer agent for its involvement in reducing cell proliferation, cell cytotoxicity, and inducing apoptosis.
