Bismuth(III) chloride may be used as a catalyst in the following processes:Alcoholysis, acetolysis and hydrolysis of epoxides to form the corresponding β-alkoxy and β-acetoxy alcohols and diols.Preparation of thiiranes from oxiranes using ammonium thiocyanate.Three component coupling of carbonyl compound, amine and dialkyl phosphite to form α-amino phosphonates.Allylation of secondary benzyl alcohols with allyltrimethylsilane.[4 + 2] cycloaddition between dienes and α-carbonyl ethylenic dienophiles.
