Biochem/physiol Actions
Synapsin I (SYN1) plays an important role in neurotransmitter release, exocytosis of the synaptic vesicles, neurite elongation and synaptogenesis. Brain dysfunction occurs due to improper expression of synapsin I.

It is present in the central nervous system like olfactory bulb, cerebral cortex, hippocampus, basal ganglia, thalamus, hypothalamus, cerebellum, pons-medulla, spinal cord and posterior pituitary gland. SYN1 is found in the nucleus and cytoplasm of granule cells, and in the glomerular synaptic complex of the cerebellum. It is located in human chromosome Xp11.3.
