Application

Anti-HuD antibody produced in rabbit may be used in immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Hu antigen D (HuD) protein binds to the 3′ untranslated region (UTR) of mRNA of genes like N-myc gene and growth-associated protein (GAP43). This binding results in an increase in the half-life of these mRNA. HuD plays a vital role in several regulatory processes, such as the processing of pre-mRNA, mRNA stability and translation. This protein is also involved in neuronal functioning and development. HuD protein also plays a role in neuronal plasticity, which includes, learning and memory, recovery from axonal injury and multiple neurological diseases.

General description

Hu antigen D (HuD) protein is highly conserved and a neuron-specific RNA-binding protein. This protein belongs to the embryonic lethal, abnormal vision, Drosophila-like (ELAVL)/Hu family. The HuD gene is located on the human chromosome at 1p33-p32.3.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acids 240-255 of human HuD with an N-terminal added cysteine, conjugated to KLH.

Physical form

Solution in 0.01 M phosphate buffered saline, pH 7.4, containing 15 mM sodium azide and 1% inactivated bovine serum albumin.

Specificity

Anti-HuD specifically recognizes human and mouse HuD.

Storage and Stability

For continuous use, store at 2-8 °C for up to one month. For extended storage, freeze in working aliquots. Repeated freezing and thawing, or storage in “frost-free” freezers, is not recommended. If slight turbidity occurs upon prolonged storage, clarify the solution by centrifugation before use. Working dilutions should be discarded if not used within 12 hours.

Target description

HuD protein binds to the 3′ UTR of mRNA of geneslike N-myc gene and GAP43, and increases the half-life ofthese mRNA.
