Biochem/physiol Actions

SV2A (synaptic vesicle glycoprotein 2A) gene is a multi-pass membrane protein that belongs to major facilitator superfamily. It regulates the cytoplasmic Ca²⁺ levels in the nerve terminal during repetitive stimulation and facilitates the synaptic transmission. SV2A serves as a binding site for the antiepileptic drug levetiracetam and may decrease the neuronal excitability. Mutation in SV2A gene results in schizophrenia.
