General description

Adrenergic receptors (ARs) belong to the 7-transmembrane domain G protein-coupled receptor superfamily that binds to the endogenous catecholamines, epinephrine and norepinephrine. α₂AR subtypes block adenylyl cyclase, suppress voltage-sensitive Ca²⁺ channels, and stimulate receptor dependent K⁺ channels. All of the α₂AR subtypes inhibit adenylyl cyclase through coupling to members of the G_i/G_o class of G proteins. They are an important component of the neural circuitry and modulate cardiovascular physiology. The physiological function of the α₂ARs in the kidney is to regulate Na⁺/H⁺ exchange.Anti-α_2A adrenergic receptor detects rat and mouse α_2A adrenergic receptors by immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry. In immunoblotting, the antibody detects an approx. 45kDa band representing α_2A receptors in tissues expressing this receptor subtype, although some non-specific bands have also been observed in certain cases.

Immunogen

synthetic peptide derived from amino acids 218-235 of human, mouse, rat, and pig α_2A adrenergic receptor. The immunogen sequence is found within the third intracellular loop of the α_2A adrenergic receptor subtype.
