The Human Protein Atlas project can be subdivided into three efforts: Human Tissue Atlas, Cancer Atlas, and Human Cell Atlas. The antibodies that have been generated in support of the Tissue and Cancer Atlas projects have been tested by immunohistochemistry against hundreds of normal and disease tissues and through the recent efforts of the Human Cell Atlas project, many have been characterized by immunofluorescence to map the human proteome not only at the tissue level but now at the subcellular level. Biochem/physiol Actions

Storkhead-box protein 1 (STOX1) plays a key role in the regulation of mitosis and cell cycle. Methylation of STOX1 results in its decreased expression. Mutations in STOX1 in the maternal gene impacts cell differentiation and trophoblast invasion in placenta leading to preeclampsia during pregnancy. It is highly expressed in brain and may contribute to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer disease. High expression of STOX1 triggers oxidative stress and increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation, leading to high blood blood pressure in preeclampsia.

General description

Storkhead-box protein 1 (STOX1) belongs to forkhead (FOX) family and has winged helix DNA binding domain. It is expressed in three isoforms. STOX1 is mapped to human chromosome 10q22.1.
