Biochem/physiol Actions
Sphingomyelin (SM) regulates the cholesterol distribution and cholesterol homeostasis in cells. It is a precursor of sphingolipid signaling molecules.
General description
15:0 SM(d18:1/15:0)-d9 is a deuterated derivative of 15:0 SM(d18:1/15:0). SM(d18:1/15:0) is composed of a pentadecanoic acid chain and a sphingosine backbone. Sphingomyelin is a major phospholipid in the plasma membrane of eukaryotic cells. It is found at higher concentrations in brain, ocular lenses and peripheral nervous tissues.
